I am a member of the Fibromyalgia Network and the National Fibromyalgia Partnership (formerly the Fibromyalgia Alliance of
America and the Fibromyalgia Association of Greater Washington).FMS (fibromyalgia syndrome) may resemble a post-viral state and several experts believe that CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) and FMS are one in the same. There are 18 specific tender points in the body for patients suffering from fibromyalgia pain. This musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder is widespread and has an unknown origin. The pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons is intense and can cause twitching and burning. Other symptoms include premenstrual syndrome, morning stiffness, numbness and tingling sensations, skin sensitivities, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic headaches, poor sleep patterns, fatigue, jaw pain, teeth grinding, dry eyes and mouth, swollen extremities, dizziness and muscle aches. Changes in temperature, stress, depression, anxiety and hormonal fluctuations can aggravate FMS. Pain, fatigue and sleep disorders are the three most important items to be addressed with FMS and Therapeutic Massage has been shown to reduce pain and fatigue and allow the deepest level of sleep. My work with clients is an individual focus that allows them to receive a reduction of pain. This is accomplished with a gentle, slow process of Therapeutic Massage, Reiki (used in many hospitals for pain control and performed with you fully clothed), or a combination of the two.
